Marcus Bell, a wedding photographer based in Brisbane is widely recognised one of the world’s leading wedding photographers, and I was lucky enough to attend one of his courses a few years ago.
The multiple-award-winning photographer is raising money to help flood victims in Queensland, by placing ten of his own classic images up for sale. All proceeds from each sale will be going to the Queensland Government’s Flood disaster relief fund. Each signed Artist Proof print is an original award winning photographic work.

Here are just a few taster images of the album that I recently delivered to Jon and Esther, celebrating their wedding at Highcliffe Castle last year. It was a wonderful day (even if it did rain and we didn’t get a fly-past from the Red Arrows!), and a wedding album is the perfect way to keep those treasured memories safe.

Well, not mine of course! But with Valentine’s Day looming on the horizon you might be struggling to find the right gift for that very special person in your life – so why not purchase a shoot (with me of course!) to show how much you love them? And of course, should you be preparing to propose, what better way than to have the proposal captured for posterity?
I’m offering a one-hour session for the two of you, with a framed 10×8 print for just £100.
Get in touch either by phone or email, and the offer’s open until the end of March 2011 – I look forward to hearing from you.
(Oh, and “Fatto Con Amore” means “Made With Love”)

If you’re planning a wedding this year (or next) why not pop along to the wedding show that’s being held at the Carlton Hotel in Bournemouth on 20th Feb 2011? It’s free, with a free glass of bubbly on arrival and the chance to meet a wonderful selection of wedding suppliers (including me!!) to help you with your most special day. There are also two fashion shows where you can see the latest styles.

Another recent shoot was with the lovely Charlotte, who wanted some headshots for her modelling portfolio. Charlotte was a joy to work with, and we got some great images – looking forward to another session later this month as we continue to revitalise her portfolio.
Here are a few of my favorites that we got from the session:

Not all of my posts are business-related, and there are times when you come across a story that melts your heart.
It’s by Chris Johnston, a photographer in Namibia and his work to save an orphaned elephant named Eddy – his blog is only a few entries deep so far, but I’m hoping there will be more.

Following the recent announcement by Facebook that 750,000 photos were uploaded over New Year’s weekend (!), the company’s warned that more professionally taken images are being used on the social networking site, in shared wedding albums or being submitted as competition entries.
Steve Hewlett, specialist at the photographic insurer In Focus, warns Facebook users to think twice before they upload photography other than their own.
“People aren’t knowingly breaking the law, they just need to be made aware. Copyright belongs to the photographer. This is unless the photographer has been contracted to take the images with the client owning the copyright. According to British law, copyright is granted at the point of creation. It belongs to the photographer unless it is taken by an employee in the course of their work, here it belongs automatically to employer.”
Hewlett continued: “People mustn’t presume they can do what they like with their professional images; permission must be sought. You can’t just take a photographer’s work off their website or online proofing albums; it lowers the value of their work. Photographers are entitled to ask Facebook users to remove their images and can take legal action if they refuse.”
“Photographers should supply an ‘Image license’ document outlining what clients can or can’t do. It’s good business practice to make things clear.”
On a personal note, to date I’ve had no problems at all with images supplied to clients, but I know of several photographers who’ve had work copied from their sites and used without permission.

I know that times are difficult with the economy at the moment, but I think it’s really important that we don’t forget to support the numerous charities that do such wonderful work in so many spheres.
One of our local charities is the Wessex Autistic Society, who provide tremendous support for parents and facilities for children via the Portfield School. I’m always happy to support them whenever I can, and recently donated a photoshoot in their Grand Christmas Draw. The event was well supported by local businesses, and the Society raised over £900 for their funding.
The winner of the photoshoot was Jessie Lenton, and I’m looking forward to meeting her and will post some images after the session.

I came across this charming video on one of the wedding vendors’ blogs, and think it’s a fabulous story ….. a photographer in the US by the name of Sid Ceaser created this Muppet inspired story for his girlfriend -
On December 12th 2010, Sid took his girlfriend Sara to a cinema in New Hampshire. After they’d watched a couple of trailers for new films, this wonderful video came up on the big screen – as the Muppet proposed to his girlfriend Sid proposed to Sara. No prizes for guessing the outcome of either proposal – just enjoy the video and the terrific song.
You can read Sid’s story about the background to the proposal on his Blog – it makes the story even better!

Now that the Christmas and New Year’s festivities are over, it’s time to catch up on some blogging of photographs from recent sessions -
First into the limelight are some images of Chris and Anne, from a shoot a couple of weeks before Christmas, on Studland Beach.
Anne won a competition for a portrait photoshoot that I ran a few months ago, and we spent a brilliant morning wandering over the sand-dunes at Studland. We were really lucky with the weather, overcast and cool – if it had been a week later we’d have been snowed in with the first snow of the Autumn (yes, it was technically still Autumn and not Winter!). Chris and Anne were great fun, totally relaxed, and this really shows in the photographs:
