I think a number of couples completely under estimate how much time, effort and decision making planning a wedding takes. Inevitably they often become stresses and take what they often percieve as the easiest route out, or listen to the parent/supplier/friend who has the most to say but may not always have enough of an over view to know exactly the best advice to give. A good wedding planner is like stress relieving gold dust - the day will be more coherent, more creative and far less stressy and possibly not actually that much more expensive if you hire a planner - highly recommended!

I am also a professional in the wedding business running a wedding car business and I agree that when a wedding planner is running things everything thing seems to be more relaxed and more enjoyable.
