I was honoured to be asked by Melanie Kiani of Bellissimo Weddings and Events to be part of her launch group for an exciting new venture – “Beach Weddings Bournemouth” – legal wedding ceremonies on Bournemouth beach. Whilst you can have your wedding ceremony on the beach in this country by using a Civil Celebrant, the legal element still has to be conducted by a Registrar. Earlier this year Bournemouth Council agreed to allow wedding ceremonies on the beach, using a “beach hut” that’s been licensed for legal purposes.

In addition to being part of the launch day itself, Melanie asked if I would also photograph the launch, with the images forming part of her marketing and promotional material – no pressure then! :)

We’d initially arranged to shoot some promotional photos using models on the launch day, but last week’s weather smiled on us and I was able to get some lovely shots – even if was a tad chilly! The reaction from the media’s been sensational, with plenty of column inches in the nationals, such as the BBC, Daily Mail, Guardian etc.

I nipped down to the beach again today to check how preparations are going for tomorrow’s event, an as you can see from the video, we’re back to traditional British weather! But if you’re in the area, pop in either tomorrow or Saturday – would be great to see you. :)

Following the recent successful launch of my “Cherish” photo-shoots at the Chewton Glen Hotel, I’m delighted to announce the addition of another stunning location for my clients to be photographed – Hill Place, near Southampton in Hampshire.

Hill Place near Swanmore is a Georgian country villa, set within 20 acres of well-tended Hampshire parkland and surrounded by the Dodson family’s orchards with views to the Isle of Wight. Hill Place has a spectacular Hall and four reception rooms providing an infinitely versatile space, all of which are licensed for weddings, civil partnerships and blessings.

Hill Place was recently featured on Channel 4’s series “Country House Rescue”, and it’s owners, Will and Rebecca, have created a fabulous venue for weddings and the elegant rooms are ideal locations for my “Cherish” photo-shoots.

OK, apologies for the very poor take-off of Star Trek for any fans out there, but one of the biggest problems faced by photographers (be they professional or amateur) is camera shake – simply put, there are times when the shutter speeds are so low that the human body simply can’t hold the camera still, and the result is blurry photographs.

There are a couple of options available – to increase the ISO or adjust the exposure settings, to use a tripod to keep the camera rock-steady, or something that’s becoming increasingly available in all types of cameras is a Vibration Reduction system, where the camera (or lens) has a sophisticated mechanism which minimises movement and allows images to be taken at slower shutter speeds.

However, there might also be another option available at some time in the future (but we have no idea when!) – Adobe this week showed a sneak peek of an algorithm they’ve developed for Photoshop where the software takes a blurry image, analyses the type of movement that created the blur and then reverses it – wow! As I said, it’s only a sneak peek but it’s a fair bet that Adobe will release this at some point for Photoshop and then eventually for it’s smaller cousin Photoshop Elements.

As always, the best option is to try and get the image right the first time around, but there are always situations where that’s not going to be possible, so this really is an exciting development for photographers of all standards.

Check out this video clip and have a look for yourself – I think you’ll find it impressive!

A few highlights from Clare and Michael’s beautiful wedding at The Italian Villa, Compton Acres in Poole – this is a beautiful venue for a wedding and if the weather’s on your side it makes it even better!

Bournemouth_chamber_of_trade

Earlier in the year I decided to join the local Chamber of Trade, and what a great choice I made!

I must admit that I’m not keen on those formal networking events – I just wanted something where I could go along and talk to other business owners in a relaxed atmosphere and make some great contacts.

The Bournemouth Chamber’s going from strength to strength and if you’re a business owner in the Bournemouth/Poole area then why not come along and check it out?
